About Us

Pawtuxet Valley Prescription & Surgical Center (PVPSC) is a multi-faceted vertically integrated medical care, product, prescription and service provider. We are fully licensed and accredited and comply with all State and Federal regulations. Each division of PVPSC maintains the highest quality of skills and training to deliver only the best of services to the patient. By integrating the various different divisions of PVPSC, we are able to provide a comprehensive course of medical treatments and services to the patient. This unique approach of integrating services significantly increases the quality of care for the patient and health care providers.

Our scope of clients include: individuals, hospitals, nursing homes, hospice facilities, out-patient clinics, group homes, and a variety of other medical service providers and institutions.

We have contractual relationships with most major medical insurance providers and provide services on a local and national basis. Please see the individual division insurance listings for more information.

Description of Services

Pharmacy

(Applies to our Retail Pharmacy, Apothecare (compounding Pharmacy) and Infusion Care Pharmacy)

Our pharmacists will provide an initial medication evaluation on all new patients (upon request). This includes medication interaction profiles and potential risk factors related to therapy. Our pharmacists will provide patients and caregivers a medication monograph which details information on side-effects of therapy.

Our pharmacists will consult with the patient and the prescribing physician to determine the best course of medicinal treatment.

Retail Pharmacy

Our retail pharmacy has an extensive inventory of drugs, medical supplies, health care products and durable medical equipment. We deal with most major suppliers and are able to obtain a variety of products. Click on this link for additional information about our Retail Pharmacy.

Compounding Pharmacy Apothecare

Our Apothecare Pharmacists will review prescriptions in detail with the prescribing physician and patient to ascertain possible alternatives to meet the specific medication needs of the patient. Our skilled compounding pharmacists can compound prescription drugs, non-prescription drugs and medications to address various problems, complications and reactions which the patient might be experiencing.

We maintain state-of-the-art equipment and sterile environment Laminar Flow Hoods. We have access to extensive compounding data bases maintained on a national basis which provide us with critical up to date information on the latest formulations and methods of treatment.

Our Infusion Care Pharmacy maintains state-of-the-art equipment and sterile environment Laminar Flow Hoods to provide Infusion Care Staff with the latest in technological advancements. Our pharmacists work directly with the nursing staff, physicians, medical care providers and patients to ensure quality infusion care services.

Additionally, they work extensively with our compounding pharmacists when specialty applications and medications are required.


Nursing Services

Our Infusion Care Nursing services are designed to provide the patient and care giver with all of the information and access to services necessary to make the infusion care process as "user friendly" as possible. The "well being" and comfort of our patients is our priority!

Our nurses make in-home or institutional visits to initialize and maintain infusion therapy, train family members or caregivers on the proper use of: infusion lines, pumps, portable units, oxygen equipment; and will provide much needed training and information on the proper use of medications and supplies.

  • Full-time registered / licensed nurses on-site.
  • 24 hour on-call availability.
  • On-site placement and maintenance of PICC, Midlines and peripheral catheters.
  • In-services programs available related to all aspects of infusion therapy including:
    • Medications
    • Pumps
    • Catheters
    • Treatment therapies
  • Case management including:
    • Initial patient assessment
    • Therapeutic monitoring
  • Clinical follow-up
  • Inpatient evaluation and education / training regarding all infusion care devices and medications
    • Provide information / education to patient
    • Provide information / education to caregiver
    • Reduction of:
      • Potential complications
      • Medication, equipment, staff requirements
  • Educational services:
    • Patient and/or caregiver education in self-care techniques.
    • Therapy-specific teaching manuals / in-service training programs
    • In-service training programs on catheter placement and maintenance for:
      • Nursing Homes
      • Home care staff
      • Physicians
      • Clinical staff
  • IV Certification classes for Nursing Homes, Home Care Agencies, Care Providers.
Our DME (Durable Medical Equipment) staff can assist you with all of your equipment needs. We have access to most major equipment suppliers and can design a plan to meet your medical needs.

Delivery and installation of equipment is available in the RI (and adjoining CT, SE MA) areas. Drop-ship delivery is available nation-wide.

24 hour/day On-Call Service

  • We provide 24 hour / day access to our staff. All departments and divisions are coordinated to provide the services necessary to meet all of your medical needs.

  • Emergency services are available for prescriptions, infusion care, and nursing services.

Delivery Services

  • PVPSC staff delivery services are available in the RI (and adjoining CT, SE MA) areas for all services and products.

  • DME products can be delivered and installed in the RI (and adjoining CT, SE MA) areas. DME products (without installation) can be delivered anywhere in the continental US.

  • Prescription drugs can be delivered to most areas in the continental US contingent upon prior consultation with prescribing physician, patient and insurance provider.

  • Apothecare (compounding) products and services are available to most areas in the continental US, contingent upon prior consultation with prescribing physician, patient and insurance provider, and can be delivered via various carriers. All compounding products requested must adhere to the "TRIAD" standards requiring consultation between patient- physician-pharmacist.

  • We are a "Preferred provider" for:

    • Pharmacare

    • Aetna-US Healthcare
    • Neighborhood Health Plan
    • Medicare (assistance with VNA involvement)

  • We can process many other forms of insurance.

  • We provide insurance verification and "direct billing" to insurance companies. This reduces patient paperwork requirements.

  • Third-party billing for all preferred providers.

  • Price quotes and rates are provided upon request.

  • Payment schedule arrangements based upon financial status (for non-covered services).
