TOTAL PARENTERAL NUTRITION (TPN):
TPN is a Total intravenous nutritional support program supplying glucose, protein, vitamins, electrolytes, trace elements, and
fats to maintain the body’s growth, development, and tissue repair associated with many illnesses. TPN is given via a central
line because of the high concentration of dextrose and hyperosmolarity of the solution. TPN administration can be achieved
in the home care setting utilizing either a portable infusion pump or upright pump running either continuous or over a period of
10-12 hours. It prevents lengthy hospitalizations or admittance to subacute facilities for therapy. It can be administered safely
and effectively in the home.
Services include:
- 24-hour support service with Nursing and Pharmacy staff.
- Provision of equipment.
- Delivery service.
- Clinical assessment and monitoring.
- Laboratory and nutritional monitoring ( including wt., I&O, caloric intake).
- Liaison between Physician and patient.
- Education and training for patient and caregiver.
We provide a coordinated "team approach" offering support, reassurance and integrated medical services for all our
TPN patients.
